Vietnam is a country located in the coast area of South East Asia, with a population of 90 million citicens. The biggest city of the country is Ho Chi Minh City, which is located in the south of the country, while the capital city, and second biggest one is Hanoi, located in the north.
For the ABU TV Song Festival fans, this country is known because in 2013, Hanoi hosted the festival. This country is also elegible to participate in the ABU TV Cup Song Contest which will be held for first time in early 2017.
National Broadcaster
The vietnamese national broadcaster is VTV (Vietnam Television). The company was launched in 1970, at fisrt, the TV station only covered the north of the country under the comunist influence, but after the reunification five years later, TVT started operating in all the country.
The programming of the network has varied from the information broadcasts to the entertainment shows.
The broadcaster is known for organising the ABU TV Song Festival 2013.
Entertainment Industry
The vietnamese popular music industry started developing in Southern Vietnam, where some famous musicians appeared. Those singers and musicians were at first, heavily influenced by the western and american pop music. However, that early rise of V-pop didn't last long. When the reunification of the country took place in 1975 under the comunist rule, all the singers who were popular in that era, left the country.
Since the reunification, the censorship was present in all the artistic expressions, and the music industry dissapeared completely in Vietnam, although in the overseas market, the genere mantained its popularity.
Since the first 1990's the Vietnamese entertainment industry started its gradual recovery appearing some famous pop singers such as My Linh and Lam Truong, who were the most popular artists in that period.
With a great influence of japanese, chinese and korean pop music, V-pop started booming in the 2000's with new singers and bands who led the genere to new horizons. Not only Pop music has experienced a rise, Rock music has also benefited from the renewed power of the Vietnamese music market. Thanks to this potential, vietnam could offer a lot of talent to the ABU TV Song Festival, the ABU Radio Song Festival, and the upcoming and competitive ABU TV Cup Song Contest

Vietnam in the ABU TV Song Festival
Vietnam has taken part every year in the ABU TV Song Festival, since its first edition in 2012 in Seoul. In 2013, the capital city of the country, Hanoi, hosted the festival in the Hanoi Opera Theatre. To date, Vietnam has been the only country which sent two entries in one of the four editions of the event.

Vietnam in the ABU Radio Song Festival
Vietnam took part only once in the ABU Radio Song Festival in its first edition, being the traditional music singer: Chu Manh Chuong, with the song "Que huong on bác", the only vietnamese entry in the contest. In 2015 the country returned to the event with Dinh Thi Than Le.

Venues
Hanoi
Hanoi Opera was the Venue of the ABU TV Song Festival 2013, with a capacity for 530 seats, which has been also the venue for many cultural and musical events
The Vietnam National Convention Centre, which is also located in Hanoi could have been a perfect venue for the ABU TV Song Festival. In fact, the festival was scheduled to take place there in 2013, buf finally the venue was changed to the much smaller Hanoi Opera.
This convention centre is one of the biggest in Vietnam with a seat capacity for over 2000 people.

Now that the upcoming and competitive ABU TV Cup Song Contest has been finally agreed, the festival will be able to attract a massive audience. Quan Ngua Sports Palace, one of the biggest arenas in Hanoi, with a seat capacity for more than 10.000 people, is suitable to host world class events.
Ho Chi Minh City
The Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre could be also a good venue for the ABU TV Song Festival, or the ABU Radio Song Festival, which has got a room with 2000 seats.
