Countries: Cambodia, an ABU member country.

Cambodia is a south-eastern asian country whose state radio and television broadcaster is member of the ABU (Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union).
Although the TVK (National Television of Kampuchea), belongs to ABU, it has never intended to send an entry to any of the ABU Song Festivals.

National Broadcaster

TVK was founded in 1966 by the goverment of Cambodia and owns one television station and 12 regional radio stations. It broadcast nine hours on weekdays, and 17 hours on weekends. In 1975 the network dissaperared during the Khmer Rouge regime, but restarted broadcasting in 1983.

After years of experimental broadcasts, the Cambodian TV station restarted its regular programation till nowadays.

Entertainment industry.

Cambodia, nowadays has been developing its musical scene with many record labels such as Town Production, Rasmey Hang Meas, Phleng records, or Sunny Production. Despite the fierce competition that the Khmer pop scene has to face against the rise of K-pop and Thai-pop, the developement of the cambodian music scene, has encouraged the appearance of some famous singers.

ABU Song Festival future.

Although the cambodian state broadcaster is member of the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union, the limited resources of the network may be a factor that prevents this country from taking part in the ABU TV Song Festival, or its radio counterpart.

Anyway the coutry in the near future may have the necessary resources in order to host any of both events.

Venues.

The Koh Pich theatre, which is located in the centre of Phnom Penh, is one of the biggest convention centres of Asia with 3.000 seats, and could be a suitable place to host the ABU TV Song Festival.
Nowadays, this theatre is usually used for the Anachak Dara, the biggest entertainment event in Cambodia which awards the biggest personalities from all the fields of the cambodian entertainment industry.

Another venue that could host the ABU TV Song Festival in case that it turned into a competition, and as a result, a much more massive event, would be the Pnhom Penh National Sports complex, which is known for being the place where international artists, for example, K-Pop bands such as U-Kiss, Laboum or SHINee, have performed. It has got over 8.000 seats, which makes it suitable for big events.
