Countries: Indonesia. An ABU member country.


Indonesia is a country located in South East Asia, that is the most populous one in the region, with more than 200 million citicens. It's one of the elegible countries to participate in the ABU Radio Song Festival, The ABU TV Song Festival, and the upcoming ABU TV Cup Song Contest that will be held for first time in 2017.


National Broadcaster


The indonesian national broadcaster is Televisi Republik Indonesia. The network started operating in 1962, when the SEA games took place. Since then, the broadcaster started its regional broadcast stations. As a public broadcasting entity, TVRI, became part of the ministry of culture and information with the objective of informing the people about the government policies.
12 years later, the company started broadcasting in color bringing more popularity to the national television scene, but in the late 80's, the company lost the monopoly of the television broadcasts with the appearance of the private radio-TV companies.

Entertainment Industry.

The indonesian entertaniment industry started its developement in the mid 1960's following the trends coming from the western countries such as the United States. Some important musicians started their careers in that era, but the Indopop, or I-pop, which is how it's known the indonesian pop music gained popularity in the late 1990's ad the 2000's, when the genere started feeling the influence of japanese and Korean pop music. Since then many musicians have been trying to imitate the style of those foreign bands. Many singers, have successfully turned into famosus personalities both in Indonesia and the neighbouring malay speaking countries such as Malaysia, Brunei or Singapore.

Indonesia in the ABU TV Song Festival.

Indonesia has taken part in every edition of the ABU TV Song Festival since its start in 2012 in Seoul. Unlike the rest of the asian broadcasters, Indonesia has been sending some unknown singers, and in 2013, TVRI organised a national final in order to select the indonesian representer of the show.
Among the followers of the event, Indonesia is known for the flamboyant staging of their entries.
It remains to be unknown if TVRI, the Indonesian national broadcaster will take part in the upcoming ABU TV Cup Song Contest, that will be premiered in early 2017.

2013: Putri & Shella - Mimpiku.

2014: Tere Cia - Dimana Hatimu.

2015: Zahra Damariva - Tak Kembali.

Venues.

Indonesia is the host Broadcaster of the ABU TV Song Festival 2016, which may be the last non competitive edition of the event. The country has got some important venues that could perfectly host the ATSF.

The Jakarta Convention Centre could be a very suitable event to host the ABU TV Song Festival as it has got a seat capacity of over 5000 seats, which makes this hall, one of the biggest exposition facilities in Jakarta and Indonesia.
This venue is known for hosting important concerts of national and international concerts and events.

Also in Jakarta, the Sentul International Convention Centre, could be a very suitable event, specially in case that the show turned finally and definitively into a competitive event with jury callings to the rest of the asian broadcasters.
This centre is one of the biggests in Asia with capacity of over 10.000 seats.
