Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a country located in the south Pacific Ocean being Indonesia its only neighbour. The Capital city is Port Moresby, in the eastern part of the country. PNG, populated by 7 million people has got two radio and TV stations being members of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, which makes PNG elegible to take part in any of the ABU Song Festivals.
National Broadcaster
Papua New Guinea has got two radio and TV stations as members of the ABU (Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union). NBC which is state owned is the first broadcaster of the country which was launched in 1974 being the radio service the first one. The broadcaster which covered news cultural an entertainment events was very popular and gained audience not only in PNG, but also in the pacific region. Although many other media broadcasters have emerged in Papua New Guinea, NBC is still one of the most popular networks in the country.
EMTV, which is the second ABU member from Papua New Guinea, this broadcaster, which has got many links with some media from Australia and from other countries, has turned into one of the strongest media in the country.
Entertainment industry.
The music industry in PNG has been very influenced by the traditional ethnic and tribal tunes. The recording industry in the country emerged in the late 1970's, when some musicians started combining the traditional music with the new music styles coming from the west like Jazz and Pop music. Since then, some solo artists and bands have emerged in the country. Tok Pisin, Motu, and other languages are present in the music scene of Papua New Guinea. Some performers, who master all these languages have become really popular.
Till now, the recording industry has been growing, with new bands singing styles such as Reggae and Hip-Hop. The popularity of these bands has increased due to their exposure in the internet, the media, and some strong record labels.

ABU Song Festival Future.
Papua New Guinea has not taken part in any of the ABU Song Festivals, but due to the membership of the country of the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union, with two companies. PNG is elegible to participate in the ABU TV Song Festival or the ABU Radio Song Festival.
